Floating “Wonderwall”

Oberhausen. With a visually striking trade show presence, Unitymedia presented itself at ANGA COM 2016 in Cologne, the international trade fair for broadband, cable and satellite. On behalf of the Cologne-based event agency movendi, the Oberhausen exhibition stand construction specialist AMECKO took on the concept development and implementation of the stand design. With its plan for the brand presence of Germany’s fastest internet provider, the AMECKO team prevailed over its competitors for the fourth time in a row.
Unlimited entertainment and connectivity:
Unitymedia makes its cable power usable on the go as well – by setting up public, free WiFi spots and creating a dense network of “WiFi spots for Unitymedia customers”. With download speeds of up to 400 Mbit/s, “our task was to stage this clearly and with strong visuals,” explains Klaus Zittrich, Managing Director of AMECKO GmbH.
Floating as if by magic
AMECKO illustrated the corporate basics of the WiFiSpot campaign in a film that was projected onto a huge static projection screen. This “Wonderwall” was “a technical as well as a structural challenge,” says Klaus Zittrich. The 12-metre-wide and 2.20-metre-high projection surface appeared to be freely suspended above the exhibition stand. To realise this idea, the AMECKO team applied a great deal of technical ingenuity and chose a very lightweight wood-based material. The effect – literally “outstanding”: the huge moving image floated as if by magic above Unitymedia’s stand, making it look like a luminous monolith. From far away, the striking key visual immediately caught the eye: “When you entered the Koelnmesse hall, your gaze first fell on the screen of the Unitymedia stand. Quite a few took photos of it, and visitors were truly impressed, praising the clean projection and the elegant construction,” Zittrich says with delight.
Seamless WiFi network visualised in an appealing way
The film projected onto the screen vividly depicts the three areas of application of the Unitymedia WiFi network: an old-town scenario visualises unlimited internet connectivity for Unitymedia customers in public spaces. The scene of a shopping street demonstrates the provision of free WiFi spots by shop owners and café operators for their customers. The third setting is a new housing development equipped with a dense WiFi network. The target group here: residential construction companies that want to offer their tenants unlimited internet connectivity. Between the scenes, the view repeatedly switches to a bird’s-eye perspective showing Unitymedia’s dense WiFi network over the city.
A clever touch in black
Cleverly concealed: AMECKO deliberately finished the trusses for the lighting technology and the projectors (3 x 20,000 ANSI lumens) in black. Thanks to this clever touch, the technology, as intended by the exhibition stand construction professionals, receded completely into the background. “The goal was to showcase the screen object and the film as effectively as possible. That’s why we made the technical equipment invisible,” explains Klaus Zittrich.
Precise, creative and on-brand
With its concept and structural implementation, AMECKO hit the mark with its client Unitymedia. “A company only has a very limited time to present itself at a trade show. It therefore stands to reason that the stand must have maximum impact in terms of attention,” says Zittrich. Mission accomplished! “Seeing a concept work out and take shape is fantastic. We are already looking forward to the challenge next time!”
