On the grounds of the former Osterfeld mine and coking plant \u2013 one of the largest hard coal mines in the Ruhr area in the 20th century \u2013 the winding wheel has long stood still. Where hard work was once done, the companies AMECKO (exhibition stand construction), Plassmeier (project developers), MADAKO (architects), and CONTACT (advertising agency) now develop creative ideas for clients from the region and the rest of the world. <br\/><br\/>The creatives located in the Steigerhaus, the former administration building of the mine, recognized the great potential of the brick entrance from the 1870s, which was only a stone’s throw away and had recently stood empty. In a joint project and under the direction of architect Michael Dahms, the four companies awakened the listed mine building from its slumber and prepared it for the 21st century. <br\/><br\/>After a six-month renovation period, Torhaus EINS now shines in unprecedented splendor: floor-to-ceiling windows flood the interior with light, and the two seminar rooms are ideal locations for workshops, meetings, conferences, and company events, or serve as a think tank for creatives. The large, open kitchen with an adjoining dining area is perfectly suited for cooking workshops and show cooking events. The premises, which can be rented for events, also serve as a gallery where both newcomers and renowned artists can exhibit their works. <br\/><br\/>At the traditional Steigerhaus reception of the four creative companies, Torhaus EINS celebrated its debut as an event and workspace, as well as a venue for cultural encounters. The exhibition series opened with the vernissage of Gelsenkirchen artist Christian Nienhaus. The large-format, colorful paintings by the “Pott-Picasso” against the white walls captivated the guests’ attention and competed with the freshly renovated mine building in radiance.
